INDIGO
Chicago Cultural Center, Exhibit & Artists Talk
January 26 - April 2, 2013
Artists Shelly Jyoti and Laura Kina display their most recent exhibit INDIGO at the Chicago Cultural Center. The artists will hold a special Gallery Talk on January 31 at 12:15 p.m.
Their works draw upon India's history, narratives of immigration and transnational economic interchanges. Employing fair trade artisans from MarketPlace: Handwork of India, the works are executed in indigo blue, the oldest and most treasured of the national dyes. The artists follow the routes of the dye around the globe through histories of expansion, exploitation and resistance to injustices. The exhibit also focuses on imagery from local ethnic neighborhoods. The exhibition has previously traveled to Mumbai, New Delhi, Baroda, Seattle, Miami.
The Chicago Cultural Center is located at 78 E. Washington Street, Chicago, Illinois 60602. Center hours are Monday – Thursday 10a.m. to 7 p.m., and Friday – Sunday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The exhibit and talk will take place on the 2nd floor of the Center at The Chicago Rooms. Admission is free. The Jungle Book
June 22 – July 28, 2013 at Goodman Theatre

From the imagination of Tony Award winner Mary Zimmerman comes a dazzling new musical adaptation of a timeless favorite. The jungle springs to life in a kaleidoscopic song-and-dance-filled spectacle that chronicles young Mowgli’s adventures growing up in the animal kingdom. Based on Rudyard Kipling’s time-honored children’s tale taking place in India, and featuring music from the classic Disney film, this spellbinding world premiere is the theatrical event of the season.
